The Framework

The Beyond Useful Framework

AI becomes powerful when it is shaped around judgment, context, and the way people actually work.

The Three Layers of
AI Interaction

1. Convenience

AI as a tool for speed. It automates repetitive tasks and provides quick answers.

Example: “Summarize this email.”

2. Leverage

AI as a multiplier for judgment. It helps you analyze, create, and make better decisions.

Example: “Analyze these trends and suggest three strategic options.”

3. Transformation

AI reshapes your thinking. It becomes a partner for discovery and redefines your workflow.

Example: “Help me build a new mental model for this complex problem.”

Convenience is not the same as leverage.

Convenience makes a task easier. Leverage changes the output, the speed of learning, or the quality of decisions around the task.

Most people stay at the convenience layer because it is immediately visible: summarize this, rewrite that, make this faster. “Useful,” yes. Transformative, not often.

Why workflows fail.

Generic AI workflows often assume everyone approaches work the same way. But people differ in how they structure problems, make decisions, create ideas, explain complexity, and activate teams.

Why generic prompting advice is shallow.

Prompt tactics matter, but they are downstream from intent. The better question is not simply what prompt should I use. It is what kind of leverage am I trying to create?
